Born on December 6, 1992, in Carlsbad, California, Hudson Riley Hawk was destined to carve his own path in the world of skateboarding. As the son of legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk, Riley grew up surrounded by the culture and energy of the skateboarding scene. However, rather than riding on his father’s coattails, Riley chose to forge his own identity, becoming a celebrated street skater in his own right.
From an early age, Riley was captivated by the art of skateboarding. Watching his father dominate vert ramps and parks, he developed a deep appreciation for the sport. Yet, Riley’s passion veered toward street skating—a discipline that allowed him to express his creativity and push boundaries in urban landscapes. By the time he turned 21 in 2013, Riley had already made waves in the skateboarding community. On his birthday, he turned professional and was named Skateboarder Magazine’s Amateur of the Year, a testament to his talent and dedication.
Riley’s career has been supported by some of the biggest names in the industry. He is sponsored by Baker Skateboards, Lakai Footwear, Spitfire Wheels, Independent Trucks, Brixton, and Happy Hour. These partnerships have not only elevated his profile but also allowed him to contribute to the design and innovation of skateboarding gear.
Beyond the board, Riley is a man of many talents and interests. He is the frontman of the punk rock band Warish, showcasing his love for music and his ability to channel his energy into creative outlets. He has also dabbled in business, operating the Steel Mill Coffee shop in San Diego County, which became a hub for music and skateboarding enthusiasts before its closure in 2023.
Riley’s personal life has also garnered attention. In 2023, he married Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. The couple welcomed their first child, Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk, in 2024, blending two iconic legacies into one family.
Despite the inevitable comparisons to his father, Riley has always maintained a grounded perspective. He embraces the challenges and opportunities that come with his famous surname while staying true to his own vision and style. Whether it’s landing daring tricks on the streets, performing on stage, or exploring new ventures, Riley Hawk continues to inspire a new generation of skateboarders and creatives.
