About Jason Lee - Pro Skateboarder Profile, Biography and History

Jason Michael Lee (aka Jason Lee / My Name is Earl) was born on April 25, 1970, in Santa Ana, California. Growing up in Huntington Beach, he discovered skateboarding at a young age. His hyperactive energy found an outlet on a skateboard, and he quickly fell in love with the sport. Lee’s mother even bought him his first skateboard, hoping it would help him burn off that excess energy.

Lee’s dedication to skateboarding paid off, and he turned pro in 1988. He gained recognition during skateboarding’s pivotal late '80s and early '90s. His style and signature trick, the 360 flip, set him apart. This challenging maneuver involves a kickflip combined with a 360-degree spin - a move that wowed audiences and fellow skaters alike.

Jason Lee was sponsored by Blind Skateboards, having his own section on the legendary Blind skate video "Video Days".

In 1992, Jason Lee co-founded Stereo Skateboards with fellow skater Chris “Dune” Pastras. The company produced skateboard decks, equipment, and apparel while also creating skate videos. Although Stereo went defunct for a few years, Lee and Pastras successfully revived it in 2003. Lee remained part of the professional “Classics” team roster as of October 2013.

Lee’s influence extended beyond skateboarding. He transitioned into acting in 1994, starring in films like Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma, often collaborating with director Kevin Smith. His voice acting credits include Syndrome in The Incredibles and the title character in Underdog. Lee also portrayed Dave Seville in the live-action/animation Alvin and the Chipmunks films... and of course Earl Hickey in My Name Is Earl.

Songs: Real World - Hüsker Dü / The Knife Song - Milk"

"You know the kind of guy who does nothing but hang out at the skate park and wonders why his life sucks? Well, that's me. My name is Earl."

"They need to do a biography/documentary on Jason Lee's life. Pro skater, Famous Actor, Business Owner... I mean, dude has done some shit."

"I remember when this came out; Blind was off the chain. Jason Lee had some effortless lines."

"Amazing part from one of my all-time favorite videos, Jason had a wonderful style. And man, that kick drum is turned up to 11 in the Milk song...just noticed it really sticking out on a new computer with better speakers than my 19" tube TV used to have."

Jason Lee: Stereo Sound System "Way Out East!" Skateboard Video

"Ah, Jason Lee. His 360 flips are magical."

"i always liked jason lee's playful approach to skating, love his style."

"His style is so old school. It rocks. I can't believe he's still riding that well at his 40 years old."

"It's amusing how many people are "surprised" that Jason Lee was a pro. It's still weird for me to see him as a TV/movie star. I remember when he was in the Liberty Skateboards "Liberty Horror" (before Video Days, I believe). This dude was so smooth and stylish, and did stuff in 1990 that is still amazing today. He didn't invent 360 kickflips (as they used to be called), but he made them look awesome every time."

"This guys is THE reason i started skateboarding.....way, way before he became an actor. His backside flips were legendary!!! He was soooooo smooth and stylish, I miss him skating, for real. Big ups to him for making it though, it's dope!"

Best of Jason Lee Skateboarding Video

"I watch this and just smile. Something about the way he skates you know he’s loving every second of it."

"As a middle aged old skater I can confirm every old skater reaches that point where he (or she) feels like it's time to stop before you really hurt yourself. Then you quit for a little while, get depressed about it, and then start skating again lol. Never stop skating! Even if you have to limit yourself to rolling around and practicing flat ground stuff."

"There’s a reason even Mullen calls him one of the most influential skaters ever."

"Back in the day, I rocked the Jason Lee Cat in the Hat deck. Those truly were the days.... hard to believe that was 3 decades ago!"

"I watch my name is earl some few years back and im rewatching it now and i just found out this dude was a pro skater what the actual fuck man thats awesome"

Jason Lee: The Nine Club Skateboarding Show

"Jason Lee discusses growing up in Southern California, first learning 360 flips in his backyard, meeting Mark Gonzales for the first time, skating Christian Hosoi’s backyard vert ramp, getting on Blind Skateboards, filming for “Video Days”, starting Blue Skateboards with Chris Pastras, why they ended Blue and started Stereo Skateboards, skating with Julien Stranger in San Francisco, how quickly skating was progressing in the early 90’s, why he “retired” from skating and started acting, shooting his first movie, doing voice over work for video games and being in Skate 3 as Coach Frank, getting the lead role in the TV show “My Name Is Earl”, taking up photography, his photography books and much more!":  The Nine Club

"When Lee gets asked about skateboarding in interviews, it’s always quick and then they move on to movie stuff. 3+ hours of him talking and skating was absolutely amazing. I need 3 more hours of this."

"They say you should never meet your heroes, but in my experience meeting Jason Lee on set was a moment I'll never forget. So humble and kind, he remembered my name and everyone else's throughout the shoot and he even ate with us on lunch break. I picked his brain a little about blind and stereo but didnt want to be that guy, yet he was totally open to talking skating with me (no one else knew what we were talking about). he was super hyped on Yoshi Tenenbaum who was just coming up. Thanks for being an all around awesome dude Jason."

""Skateboarding is sacred ground." So true man, even if you stop skating all together you're still a skater. It forever changes the way you view the world."

""Once you´re a skater - you´ll always be a skater" - so true. I'm turning 45 this year, had to end my 15 years of skating due to knee injuries and such when I was 30 and still I cannot get that "look for spots" out of my head. I´m still always on the lookout for ledges, stairs, rails and such. Even after 15 years of NOT skating anymore (cant believe its that long tbh) Nobody will ever understand this who never skated."

"You guys pulled it off!, this is a big one, probably the biggest. Congrats Nine Club! Cataloguing Jason Lee's perspective on this art we all love is so important. The first Style God. Story teller extraordinaire."
