About Curren Caples - Pro Skateboarder Profile, Biography and History

Curren Caples is an American professional skateboarder who was born on January 10, 1996, in Akron, Ohio, USA. He later moved to Ventura, California, where he began skateboarding at the young age of four. His father, Evan Caples, was a professional surfer and currently owns Momentum Ride Shop and a Surf & Skate store. Curren’s mother, Shelley Caples, is a housewife. Due to his flourishing skateboarding skills, Curren was homeschooled by his mom, allowing him to focus on his passion for skateboarding.

Curren turned pro in March 2013, and his first professional contest was the Tampa Pro, where he placed 69th. In the same year, he won the VQS surf contest in Kauai, beating Sunrise Shack owner Koa Smith. At X Games Barcelona 2013, he secured a silver medal in skateboard park. His overwhelming performance attracted fans and sponsors alike. He received tremendous family support, which inspired him to focus on his career.

He won his first gold medals at the 2013 Munich X Games and the 2015 Austin X Games in Skateboard Park. In the same year, he also won a silver medal at the 2013 Barcelona X Games and another platinum medal at the 2013 Munich X Games, beating the favourite, Pedro Barros.

Interesting Fact: Curren was named after renowned surfing icon Tom Curren.
