About Kerry Getz - Pro Skateboarder Profile, Biography and History

Kerry Getz was born on June 10, 1975, in Lehighton, Pennsylvania, USA. His skateboarding journey began at the age of nine, and he quickly fell in love with the sport.

Getz’s name is etched in skateboarding history alongside legends like Fred Gall, Tim O’Conner, and Rob Pluhowski. Habitat aimed to create something unique, and Getz was right there at the inception.

Getz earned the nickname “Hockey Temper” due to his fiery disposition on the board. His anger issues while skating became legendary, and a montage of his outbursts even made it into his Skate More video part for DVS Shoes. It’s safe to say that Getz’s passion for skateboarding burned hot.

As of December 2014, Getz’s sponsors included Habitat Skateboards, Nocturnal Skateshop, and MOB Griptape. He also owned a shop in Philadelphia called Nocturnal Skateshop.

Getz is known for his technical prowess and he didn’t just ride the streets; he conquered competitions. He medaled in the 2000 and 2001 X Games and even clinched a gold medal in the first street skateboarding X-Games event. He also secured 1st place in the Tampa Pro 2000 and the VANs Triple Crown Skateboard Finals.

Kerry Getz carved his name into skateboarding lore with his talent, temper, and tenacity. Whether he was nailing tricks or unleashing his “Hockey Temper,” Getz has made a big impression on the world of skateboarding.

"He had such a carefree yet stylistic flow to his skating. One of the most underrated street skaters of the 90s and 2000s."

"Yo…… I was on a hunt for a new, fully loaded deck one day in Philly back in 06. I didn’t even know who Kerry was at that time. I knew he was sponsored and from the area, but that was about it…. He built me this cool deck that was a limited run of about 10 different decks with all local Philly photos on the bottom. My dude treated me like we were greatest of friends and made me feel like he was doing me a solid…. I still have the board today just as new as the day he built it."
