Darkstar Skateboards was founded in 1997 by professional skateboarder Chet Thomas, along with the now defunct Dwindle Distribution company. It was named after the song “Dark Star” by the rock band Grateful Dead.

Chet Thomas had previously ridden for World Industries Skateboards, another brand under Dwindle Distribution, but he had aspirations of starting his own skateboarding brand. Darkstar quickly gained popularity in the skateboarding community due to its talented team of riders and unique graphics.

In 2008, Darkstar released its first full-length skate video titled “Batallion,” showcasing the talents of their team, including standout parts from riders like Tommy Sandoval and Greg Lutzka. This was followed by two more videos: “New Blood” in 2010 and “Forward Slash” in 2016.

Some notable riders who have represented Darkstar Skateboards include Tommy Sandoval, Greg Lutzka, and Ryan Decenzo.

Darkstar has collaborated with various brands and artists over the years:
They partnered with Harley-Davidson to create a line of skateboards featuring the iconic motorcycle brand’s logo and imagery.
A collaboration with Marvel resulted in skateboards featuring popular comic book characters like Spiderman and The Punisher.
Darkstar’s product line includes a wide range of skateboard decks, wheels, clothing, and accessories.
