Cliché Skateboards emerged onto the skateboarding scene in 1997, founded by French professional skateboarder Jeremie Daclin. Based in Lyon, France, this brand quickly made waves in the skateboarding community. Daclin’s vision was clear: to create a European alternative to the dominant American skate brands.

Cliché wasn’t just another run-of-the-mill skateboard company. Daclin wanted to celebrate European skateboarding culture, and he believed in capturing the essence of skating across the continent, from the bustling streets of Paris to the rugged spots in Barcelona. Cliché also embraced the artistry of skateboarding. Their videos and graphics were visually striking, often featuring stunning photography and creative designs. Cliché didn’t pigeonhole itself. Whether it was street skating, vert, or cruising, they celebrated all aspects of the sport.

Cliché assembled an impressive team of skaters, including:
Lucas Puig: His smooth style and technical prowess made him a standout.
JJ Rousseau: Another French talent known for his fluid lines and creative approach to street skating.
Javier Mendizabel: A Spanish powerhouse who brought raw energy to the team.
Cale Nuske: The first Australian rider for Cliché.
Vincent Bressol, Ricardo Fonseca, and Nicolas Caron.

Cliché released their debut video, Europa, in 2000. It showcased the team’s skills across Europe, from iconic spots to hidden gems. The brand’s popularity soared, and they continued to produce memorable videos over the years.

In 2001, Cliché took an unexpected turn. The France-based Salomon Group acquired the brand. However, this didn’t dampen their spirit. They kept pushing boundaries and creating quality products until November 2016, when Dwindle Distribution (an American company) announced that they would discontinue the Cliché brand.

Despite this, Cliché’s legacy lives on.
