About Yuto Horigome - Pro Skateboarder Profile, Biography and History

Yuto Horigome was born on January 7, 1999, in Kōtō, Tokyo, Japan. His father, Ryota Horigome, was a former street skater, and he introduced Yuto to skateboarding even before he could walk. By the age of seven, Yuto was already a regular at Tokyo’s “Amazing Square” Skatepark, spending countless hours practicing his tricks and honing his skills.

At the age of 14, Yuto began traveling to the United States for skate trips. Eventually, he made a life-changing decision and moved to Los Angeles, California, at the age of 16. Los Angeles, with its thriving skate culture, provided the perfect environment for Yuto to continue his skateboarding journey. He attended high school online due to his travel schedule, staying with friends, including pro skateboarder Micky Papa, during his time in LA.

In 2015, Yuto filmed skateboarding parts alongside Micky, who was sponsored by Blind Skateboards. Inspired by this experience, Yuto joined the Blind Skateboards team later that year and remained with them until January 2019.

Yuto has entered numerous skateboarding competitions, including:
Street League Skateboarding (SLS): Yuto made his professional SLS debut in May 2017 at the championship in Barcelona.
X Games: He has competed in various X Games events, including the 2019 Minneapolis Street, 2022 Chiba Street, and 2023 California Street competitions.
Olympic Games Skateboarding: Yuto made history by winning the gold medal in the inaugural Olympic men’s street event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He defended his gold medal in the same event at the 2024 Summer Olympics, solidifying his status as a skateboarding legend.

Throughout his journey, Yuto drew inspiration from skateboarding icons like Mike Carroll, Gino Iannucci, Eric Koston, Guy Mariano, Shane O’Neill, and Paul Rodriguez. Their influence fueled his passion for and commitment to the sport.
