McKay’s journey in professional skateboarding began in 1992, when he joined the groundbreaking Plan B Skateboards "superteam", a group that forever changed the landscape of skateboarding. After Plan B's original team disbanded, McKay transitioned to Girl Skateboards in 1998, where he solidified his reputation as one of the most influential skaters of his era. Backed by Syndrome Distribution, this relaunch turned the brand into a powerhouse once again.
