Brandon Westgate was born on February 15, 1989, in Wareham, Massachusetts, United States. As a young skater, he honed his skills in his hometown and at the Skater Island skate park in Rhode Island.

In 2003, Westgate kickstarted his skateboarding journey as a flow team rider for 5boro Skateboards. His talent caught attention, especially after his Word of Mouth part in 2004, which later became a classic segment in Thrasher mag. He then made a significant move by joining Birdhouse Skateboards in October 2005. Birdhouse Skateboards was founded by none other than skateboarding legend Tony Hawk.

Westgate’s style was all about simplicity and speed. He said in a 2013 interview, “I’m just into simple and fast, and good style”. His skating prowess led him to Zoo York Skateboards in 2007, along with Emerica footwear in 2008. By May 2009, he achieved professional status with Zoo York and released his first professional model Emerica shoe in early 2011.

Westgate’s bag of tricks included ollies and flips over massive obstacles. He was known for pushing the limits, like conquering a neck-high euro gap and executing an insane three-flip flyover. His fearless approach earned him a nomination for Thrasher Magazine’s 2013 “Skater Of The Year” award alongside other skateboarding greats like Ishod Wair and Nyjah Huston.

As of March 2021, Westgate was sponsored by Element, Ricta, Venture, Bones Bearings, Mob Grip, CCS, and New Balance. He even had two pro model shoes on New Balance Numeric—the Brandon Westgate NM913 (released in 2020).

Beyond skateboarding, Westgate lives a down-to-earth lifestyle. He and his girlfriend are vegetarians, and they reside together, tending to their garden and raising chickens. Westgate even built a chicken coop and was working on a greenhouse for his mother.
