About Lance Mountain - Pro Skateboarder Profile, Biography and History

Lance Mountain, born Robert Lance Mountain on June 13, 1964, in Pasadena, California, is a legendary figure in the skateboarding world. Raised in Southern California, Lance's journey into skateboarding began in 1975 when a friend gave him a used skateboard. He quickly upgraded from clay wheels to the much better performing and longer lasting urethane wheels and immersed himself in the skateboarding culture, inspired by skateboarding icons like Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta.

Lance's professional skateboarding career took off in 1981 when he joined Variflex Skateboards as an amateur. A year later, he became part of the iconic Powell Peralta skateboard team, where he gained fame as a member of the Bones Brigade, alongside legends like Tony Hawk and Steve Caballero. His sponsorships over the years have included Flip Skateboards, Nike SB, Independent Trucks, Spitfire wheels, and Bones Bearings.

Lance helped popularize skateboarding through the Powell Peralta Bones Brigade videos, such as Future Primitive, and The Search for Animal Chin,. He is also credited with inventing tricks such as the "gay twist" and the "sad plant," and he even contributed to the creation of fingerboards. Beyond skateboarding, Lance is an accomplished artist, with his work featured on skateboards, shoes, and in exhibitions.

Lance Mountain's artistic ventures are as impressive as his skateboarding legacy. His passion for art began at a young age, influenced by his father, and has grown alongside his skateboarding career. Lance's artwork often reflects his deep connection to skateboarding culture, featuring vibrant, imaginative designs that have adorned skateboards, shoes, and even coffee tables.

He has collaborated with fellow skaters like Neil Blender on creative projects, including zines, and his art has been showcased in exhibitions. Lance's creativity extends beyond traditional mediums; he has also worked on unique commissions and projects that blend his artistic vision with his skateboarding heritage.

Currently, Lance remains active in the skateboarding community. He continues to skate professionally, collaborates with brands, and showcases his art. In recent years, he has reunited with fellow Bones Brigade Members: Tony Hawk, Mike McGill, Rodney Mullen, Tommy Guerrero and Steve Caballero, for special sessions and events, and he has held exhibitions displaying his extensive skateboarding memorabilia.

His influence continues to inspire both old and new generations of skaters.
